Soglasiye can pay record 4.7 bln rbl for Soyuz carrier failure

MOSCOW, Oct 11 (PRIME) -- Insurer Soglasiye can pay one of all-time record compensations of 4.65 billion rubles for a failure of a Soyuz spacecraft rocket, a spokesperson for the company, which insured the launch risks, told reporters on Thursday.

“If this incident is acknowledged as an insured case, it will be the first insured case with a piloted spacecraft in the contemporary history of Russian insurance. The payment will probably be one of the largest for the last few decades,” CEO of Soglasiye Maya Tikhonova said, as cited in the statement.

Earlier on Thursday, the Soyuz-FG carrier failed to drive the Soyuz MS-10 spaceship to Earth’s orbit in the latest of the Russian space program mishaps.

Tikhonova said that the risks under the agreement were reinsured with several reinsurers in Russia and abroad.

A spokesperson for Ingosstrakh said that the company insured 25%, 1.164 billion rubles of the risks of the Soyuz launch. According to the statements of other insurers, Alfa Insurance’s limit stood at more than 100 million rubles, and the Russian National Reinsurance Company’s share amounted to about 800 million rubles.
